Lorde hair

Standard

Who doesn’t love Lorde? She’s perf. She’s got great style, an awesome voice, and ah-mazing hair. I want to be her.

So, maybe that’s out of the question. I mean, not everyone is blessed with a killer set of vocal chords.

But, can we at least try to replicate her rocking curls?

Yes. Yes we can. All it takes is some mouse, hairspray, curl gel, and a finger-style diffuser.

– Comb through wet hair with a wide toothed comb
– work in all your curl-styling product. I use “scrunch spray” first, then gel, then mouse, then spray it all very lightly with hairspray
– flip your hair and use your hair dryer on low heat. Make up and down movements until your curls are dry all over.
– part it the way you want, and spray lightly with hairspray and voila!

*if you have hair that is inclined to frizz (like mine!) try not to play with it too much after you’ve styled, it makes the frizzies come out!*

Tunage

Standard

Okay, so I haven’t logged on to this brilliant blog in a while but today I wanted to share with you a few musical talents that are pretty adroit if you ask me (they’re listed in no particular order by the way, there’s no accurate way to truly favorite one over the other anyhow):

-The Black Keys: a dynamic male duo from Ohio that like to rock out and are really good at doing so (ex. songs- Gold On the Ceiling, Nova Baby)

-Lorde: a young starlet with refreshing songs and an even more refreshing voice (ex. songs: Royals, The Love Club)

-Jack Johnson: a relaxed beachy rocker who resides in Hawaii, he has been one of my favorites for a long time (ex. songs: Banana Pancakes, At or With Me, You and Your Heart)

-The Lumineers: folk rock quintet from Denver, Colorado, with a melancholy and addictive tune (ex. songs: Flowers In Your Hair, Big Parade [shout-outs to history; epic, shout out to Thing 1], whole album is awesome; The Lumineers)

-Gavin DeGraw: New York rocker who was featured on the show One Tree Hill (ex. songs: More Than Anyone, Chemical Party, Soldier)

-Beck: L.A. throw-back rocker who is a one-man show, and a great show at that (ex. Girl, Go It Alone, Earthquake Weather)

-The Neighbourhood: L.A. alternative quintet with an unique sound that’s definitely one to be heard (ex. Sweater Weather, W.D.Y.W.F.M [What Do You Want From Me])

-Never Shout Never: Missouri indie-rockers with a definitely exclusive sound that are an unlikely yet mandatory member of my go-to playlist (ex. Coffee and Cigarettes, Trouble)

-(shout out to Thing 3) The Wombats: English indie-rockers with a cool name and even cooler look and sound (ex. songs: 1996, Walking Disasters)

-Citizen Cope: bluesy folk singer/songwriter with an eccentric tune (ex. Pablo Picasso, Son’s Gonna Rise)

-Coldplay: an English band with widespread recognition, but not so much for their older albums such as X&Y and Yellow (ex. songs: The Scientist, A Rush of Blood to the Head)

-Florence + the Machine- my favorite female crooner with a sound just her own that is soulful and purrfect for any occasion (ex. songs: Girl With One Eye, Kiss With a Fist)

-Fun.-an American trio with a unique sound that were an unlikely match for me, but they grew on my eardrums and now are one of my favorites (ex. songs: All Alright, One Foot)

-Thing 2

30 minute knitted headband

Standard

Congratulations, you’ve just found your new favourite thing. At least, it’s my new favourite thing, so….

Right. The 30 minute knitted headband.

What you need:
-Large knitting needles. Because I’m broke, I’ve only got one large pair, and they’re size 17. You could use any size really, but the larger the size, the shorter time it will take.
– 1 skein of medium to bulky yarn. I used a really bulky skein I found lying around
– scissors

To being, cast on about 30 stitches. I’ve got a pretty average size noggin and 31 fit me perfectly, but you’ll have to take in to account differencing yarn and needle sizes.

Knit as normal- no crazy fancy stitches for this lazy cat!- for 2 rows.

Do a basic bind off, leaving a relatively long tail. Take the two ends of your headband and place one overlapping about an inch over the other. Take your longer tail and wave it through the knit. Tie it in a basic double knot to your other tail. Trim the ends.

And there you have it!
